Madonna
For my office seatmate, Madonna - It’s been a year since we first celebrated your birthday at Yellow Cab. (She’s on a vacation heyday this week, so no Yellow Cab! Haha, kidding) Happy Birthday!
Another Birthday WIP
Woman With A Fan - WIP
Unfinished painting from last year. This was meant to be a practice exercise for me when I studied digital coloring, and as a student, I was asked to bring something to color in. I couldn’t think of anything to color and so I brought in one of Renoir’s paintings - Woman with A Fan. Renoir is also my mother’s favorite artist. I rendered it differently, but still with the original painting’s structure. So now the woman with the fan looks Asian. After so many months, I’m back working on it again - still practicing. I hope I get to finish this no matter how long, then I hope to have the confidence to work on my own illustrations.

Mary Ann’s birthday drawing for me
So sweet of my co-worker, Mary Ann, to give me this drawing for my birthday! Sorry I got to see this 2 days late, but still, I really appreciate you drawing this for me. Thank you. Here’s some photos of me with her, plus a couple of other co-worker friends.

Ruby’s Birthday Artwork
Made this as my birthday gift for her. Started this piece before her birthday but I wasn’t able to finish it on time, and now it’s already 5 days past her birthday! Hope you like it, Ruby! Belated Happy Birthday! Merry Christmas in advance too!
Drawing on someone else’s planner
Today, I had my first time drawing on someone else’s planner. More specifically, on my seatmate’s Limited Edition Starbucks Coffee 2012 Planner. Ha! Thank you, Mary Ann for letting me draw on your precious planner when I got bored and nothing to do. I did the reindeer doodle just for the holidays.
Challenges in the Workplace
A bad day at the office happens. You get frustrated, you feel your work is unfulfilling, you have co-workers that are difficult to get along with, you hate your boss, and the list gets longer.
You want to quit and leave. But then, think. Breathe. After quitting, what do you do next? You may set up your own business or find another job. You think that the grass is greener somewhere else. Usually, what you want at the moment is to get out of where you are right now because you hate it. But then, that “somewhere else” may not be the green grass that you’re expecting. Think. Breathe.
Our frustration is greater when we have much and want more than when we have nothing and want some. We are less dissatisfied when we lack many things than when we seem to lack but one thing.

Because it’s our anniversary.
I decided to do something not in vector form this time. So I opted to digital paint instead. I think I should do this more often, as painting is therapeutic. Anyway, happy anniversary!
Project
No, I do not forget that I have a tumblr account. Been really, really, really busy the past month - we had this training about a new CMS (content management system) that we’re gonna use to build websites. Took more than a month on the midshift instead of the normal 2 week duration. I’m lucky to have at least an hour a day to work on personal artworks. That is, if I don’t feel so sleepy when I get home. I get home at 11pm, you see. The holidays are always the busiest time of the year for me, in a good way.

Get busy living, or get busy dying.

The Lazy WIP
I’ve had this habit of starting artworks and not finishing them immediately. I start something then, I start another one, and another one and another one. They just keep piling in. I know I need more discipline in finishing my artworks. I start illustrating something then I get lazy finishing it. I don’t want to blame the change of shift in my workplace. But that shift is a really lazy shift. I should know, cause I’ve had that shift lots of times when I was still practicing as a nurse. The 2-10 shift. (In our workplace right now, it’s 1-10) It seems as if time travels really really slow there.
I could cite some advantages being in that shift: No traffic. You don’t have to get up early. But still, the morning shift is the best for me. I could go home after work and do loads of stuff. Unlike now, I go home and I can just do so little, then doze off. Then I get up late and do nothing but prepare to run off.
One more week of the midday shift. I hope to finish one of them soon.
That destructive siren, sloth, is ever to be avoided.

Music Ban
Quoting from Gilbert Galindo’s essay on the importance of music:
Art and music are basic human functions….People have always found music significant in their lives, whether for enjoyment in listening, the emotional response, performing, or creating.
An unfortunate thing happened at our workplace today. It was announced to us that all music devices (i.e. iPods, mp3s, etc.) will not be allowed in our workplace anymore. No violent reaction here, but I am saddened to say that I will be missing my iPod while working. It is for a more professional bearing, they say.
